Today, most small, medium, and large companies in business have a set of core values. Employees of these companies are taught to use the core values to guide them on how to work with fellow team members and especially on how to conduct business with their clients and customers. Tenacity Performance Training is no different. After 2 1/2 years in business, I’ve learned that if I don’t know my core values, I don’t know what Tenacity stands for or worse, my potential clientele don’t know what Tenacity stands for. Over the next several weeks, I’d like to introduce (or reintroduce) you to the Tenacity Performance Training Core Values.

CORE VALUES #1 – Conduct Yourself with Professionalism, Integrity, and Compassion

Having worked in the fitness industry since 1998, I’ve come across a lot of good this industry has done to help people with their health improvement, weight-loss, fitness, and sports performance goals. Unfortunately, I’ve also seen A LOT of bad in this industry. Many people who seek the expertise of a personal trainer are in a vulnerable state. They may have body-image issues, self-esteem and self-confidence issues, but they’ve some how mustered enough courage to walk into a gym or training facility and ask a personal trainer for help with achieving their goals. This is a perfect opportunity for a personal trainer or coach to step up and become someone’s guiding light, an actual solution to someone’s problem. Unfortunately, this is where I’ve seen many of my colleagues drop the ball. For one reason or another, some of my fellow trainers become judgmental of their clients instead of being supportive resulting in the client becoming more discouraged. Other trainers fail to take the time to listen to the needs and goals of their clients. Instead, they take their clients through a cookie-cutter exercise program which does nothing to help them achieve their goals and address their needs. Though most of my fitness colleagues are doing great things with their clients, the minority of bad fitness professionals has given a black eye to the fitness industry. When I started Tenacity Performance Training, I wanted to show my potential clients that if they worked with me (and hopefully my future team of trainers) they would receive professional and honest service in return for their time and financial investment. They were going to work with a professional and honest trainer who would listen to what their goals and needs were and utilize all of his resources to help them achieve those goals and meet those needs. This is why I made Conduct Yourself with Professionalism, Integrity, and Compassion core value #1.
